Harpenden and Wheathampstead District Scouts

Scout Active Support allows people to give their time to Scouting on a flexible basis. People can still be involved in Scouting without the full-time commitment of being a leader.

It provides a resource for Managers of local Scouting including Group Scout Leaders, District Commissioners and County/Area Commissioners, who can use it in whichever way is required.

Scout Active Support is for anyone over the age of 18 years. It is a way for adults to volunteer time to Scouting in a flexible way that suits them.

There is no requirement to have been involved in Scouting before joining. All that is required is a willingness to volunteer some time to support Scouting.

Gang Show needs your help
14/01/2019 By Rod Keen

Now all of the equipment, wardrobe, and various other stuff from the Gang Show has been dismantled and put into storage we have found that at least 3 possibly 4 monitors used by the CCTV team have had to be recycled. These were old CRT things that were HUGE, heavy and the pictures were past their best. Mark is now hoping that people that are updating their TVs and/or computer monitors are willing to help the show out. What he is after is flat screens that are around 20" to 24" that are in fully working order but need to be saved from the recycle centre. Please contact Mark by clicking HERE.

District News - Please read
18/12/2018 By DC-Russell Brooks

Hi everyone,

I have three important messages to pass on before the Christmas break.

First, the Gang Show is urgently looking for more volunteer First Aiders.  Thank you to those who have already volunteered, but we are looking for more - otherwise we will need to hire St John’s Ambulance again.  If you are able to help out with First Aid you get to enjoy the show free of charge from the audience, and you don’t have to cover to more than one show.   If you are able, please let Colette Eagles now asap ( colette eagles ).

Secondly,  we have listened to Leader’s comments in relation to how we manage sales of badges at the Scout shop and are making changes to make their collection more flexible.

Su Brooker, with immediate effect, has taken over responsibility for the badges.  She cannot be at the shop on a Saturday so will manage their sales from her home at

22 Hawthorn Close, Harpenden, AL5 1HN

You can order badges from the District Scouts website  (NB. you will need to be logged in as a member to use this form as it is on the Leaders' only pages).  Alternately, she can also be contacted by email at any time (su brooker), though she would prefer to fulfil orders on a Monday or a Tuesday when she is reliably in Harpenden.  She can arrange collection/delivery as is convenient to you and her, so in your email please include a note about when you need the badges.

When ordering badges please state clearly whether they are for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers; the name of the leader ordering them; and the Group/Unit Name.  Once fulfilled the District Treasurer will send an invoice for the badges ordered to the Group/Unit Treasurer.

Please note all other scout shop items will be available from the shop as usual on Saturday mornings in term time between  9.00 and 11.00.

Lastly, a quick thank you to each and everyone one of you for all that you do to give our young people such fantastic opportunities to develop the Skills for Life that will help them all their lives.  I wish you all a wonderful festive season and hope you get a break before it all begins again in the New Year.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
