Harpenden and Wheathampstead District Scouts

A snowy 2017 proved to be a challenge
but the District Cub Scouts were up to the task.

In 34 years of this free service for the elderly, we have never had snow like this time. With 3560 cards to deliver, the conditions posed quite a challenge. By the end of Sunday the majority of the cards were safely home but, for the first time, deliveries will continue until next weekend, especially to Redbourn, which was very hard to reach from Harpenden in the deep snow. The service has again saved nearly £2000 in postage for the older residents of Harpenden but, more important, younger people of the town are doing something useful for the seniors - and greatly enjoying themselves in the process, perhaps even more so this year! Town Mayor, Councillor Rosemary Farmer, helped with the card sorting and thanked the Cubs for their special service. Altogether 85 Cubs, from each of the town's twelve Packs, helped out over the weekend.
